Jules has been doing my hair for a while now. I always get a really good cut, which means that I can manage it myself easily in between visits. I also love the Indian Head Massage, which leaves me feeling really relaxed. The staff are always attentive, offering drinks and magazines etc. A lovely place to be pampered!

Stuart Phillips has been cutting my hair for years. I would not let anyone else cut my hair. He cares about his clients and has a passion for hair. I recommended all my friends to go and see him, and they have become regular clients too. Great haircut, great service and a few goods laughs as well.

I had a wonderful experience at Stuart Phillips from beginning to end, as all the team were friendly and very professional. I am very happy with the cut and colour and would recommend SP to anyone, especially if you want to leave feeling pampered!

I have seen many different hairdressers in Beverly Hills and also in London, and I think the very best are in Beverly Hills - the likes of Giuseppe Franco and José Eber. I have tried numerous salons in London, such as Nicky Clark, John Frieda, Daniel Galvin and Trevor Sorbie just to name a few, and to be quite honest they were nothing special - you would receive a better cut at José Eber.

I run a busy company and I constantly fly between California and London, so my image is very important to me; therefore I'm continuously looking for the best hair and make-up. I do not usually make comments on sites but I wanted people to hear what I have to say about this particular salon and the people that work there.

Normally I would see a new hairdresser on recommendation but this time I decided to search on the internet to see if any one salon stood out in London, and it did. I found Stuart Phillips. I'm so surprised that I never heard of this salon before (London’s best kept secret) because once you Google the name a lot of things come up about the man Stuart and his salon. Anyway, I found the salon through urbanpath and spent a long time reading all the reviews. Sure there were some negative ones but a lot of good reviews too. People had obviously spent the time writing, so this inspired me to do the same.

I booked in to see Stuart for the cut, and his top colourist, Caron-Ann, for the colour. All I wanted was for Caron-Ann to brighten up my highlights, but believe me so many colourists in London could not perform this simple task. My consultation started with Stuart. Even though I didn't want a lot of hair cut he still spoke to me for about 20 minutes. Stuart explained that he wanted to give me advice on different styles (if I wanted a change in the future), what suited my face shape, bone structure and general lifestyle. This actually intrigued me, knowing what would suit and what wouldn't. He explained so well that I built a picture in my mind of the cut. I asked if he had a photo of the style and he explained that he didn’t want to show me because the model's face would be different to mine so the cut would look different on her, (understandable I suppose). I started to think, well, maybe he's right. There has never been a hairdresser that has gone into this much depth with so much enthusiasm and passion - not even in Beverly Hills does this happen. This astonished me and I agreed to have a style change, (hairdressers do not normally advise me about style changes unless I first ask).

The colour consultation was about 5-10 minutes but considering I was just brightening up the colour it didn't need to be as long as Stuart's.

It was time for the colour to be washed off, and one of the apprentices walked me over to the basin. This part was very nice as the chairs elevated back, which was very comfortable, and they also massage your hair which was very relaxing. When I first sat down I thought the colour was a bit dark but Caron-Ann came over and told me once it dries it will become lighter, so I knew I would have to wait until the end to see the true results.

Stuart cut about four inches of hair off and for me that was a big deal, so I was getting a little nervous, but he was so charming and - importantly - perfectionist that my nerves soon wore off. He took over one and a half hours to cut my hair, which may I say is amazing considering he charges £175 including the consultation - that's less than £90 an hour for such a good hairdresser.

My colour was very nice. Once it was dried it did look lighter. It was revitalised, with a lovely shine to it. Caron-Ann could see I was happy because I couldn’t stop smiling, but she still approached me to have a look.

I was very pleased that Stuart talked me into this style - it took a few years off me. I am now converted and I will only be getting my hair cut with Stuart. Considering I’m here on business every two months, that shouldn’t be too difficult. He certainly has restored my faith in London hairdressers.

I think someone like Stuart should also have a salon in Rodeo Drive. The Americans would love his passion and perfectionism. I also think his staff are very professional and very good at what they do. Well, certainly Caron-Ann was. The overall ambience was very nice. Stuart also told me that a lot of his staff have been working for him for around ten to fourteen years, which says a lot about the salon.

I am so pleased that I found this salon that I will now be recommending to my English and American friends.

I had a great experience at Stuart Phillips. After taking the time for a personal consultation, Caron Ann gave me a great style and I am getting loads of compliments on my hair colour. The environment is relaxing and the head massage during a shampoo adds to the extra special pampering experience. If you're getting your hair done in London, I would definitely recommend Stuart Phillips!

I logged on this morning to have a brief look at the map prior to my appointment, and I was horrified to see the comment below. I almost cancelled. Thankfully I didn't! I had a great experience from beginning to end. Tristan was my stylist and he was fantastic. Not only did I get the exact style that I was after, I also had a real laugh and a giggle with both him and his side-kick, Nina. Tristan is a very professional stylist, and I would recommend anyone who is looking for a 2009 revamp or even those who just care about their hair to book in.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE! I could list numerous problems with this salon, but to name but a few, I came out with an inaccurate and rushed cut from supposedly the best hairdresser available on that day (Caron Ann, second in line to Stuart). She failed to carry out a simple cut of layering my long hair after showing pictures; I was left with two layers at the front and no attempt of layering the back, and uneven cutting on each side of my parting. For £110 for just the cut I would have expected accuracy at least.

Secondly, after having highlights I went in with the request of going back to my natural color of brown. However, I emerged with a heavy black color which was leaps and bounds away from my natural color (which, may I state, was visable at my roots and so she should have been able to establish what color I was asking for). I was so upset with the color, as it is not what I asked for and with my pale skin looked dreadful, draining all color from my face.

On leaving the salon, I was asked if it was OK for me. On stating my shock at the color I was told it was gorgeous and shunned to go and pay. I also returned home with a stained cardigan from the colorist letting my hair drip on to my clothing. I happened to be wearing an expensive cardigan, which is now ruined.

From my experience, I cannot understand why this salon is so highly rated. Perhaps I was unlucky but I would never recommend their service, it was unprofessional, rushed and dissatisfying. (They had a fashion show to get to that day, which they were rushing to get to. Clearly this was their priority, as I was told abruptly that I couldn't have the service I had initially requested because they had to leave at 3pm. Of course, this had not been explained to me previously.) Overall, HUGELY disappointing.

Tristan has been my stylist for a few years, so following him to Stuart Phillips was a no-brainer. Tristan’s amazing personality, wicked sense of humour and skill are now teamed with a slick and funky salon right in the heart of Covent Garden. The cool atmosphere and friendly staff all add together to make what having a haircut should be – an amazing experience. You walk out of the SP salon feeling like a top model... and will probably bump into one on your way out.

I think this is a great place to get your hair done, whether it's a colour or just a cut. My hairdreser was Ellie, who was great. She listened to what I wanted and made the cut work for me, plus the style has stayed and I can replicate it at home. I've also had my hair coloured here by Ellie and it was lovely. So am really pleased and would recommend this place to all who value their hair highly!

After looking through lots of reviews on the Urbanpath website, I chose to go to Stuart Phillips salon. From the moment that I spoke to someone on the phone to make the appointment, I felt like I was really going to be well looked after - and I wasn't disappointed.

I was looked after by Tristan, who was fantastic! We spent lots of time discussing what I wanted and what sort of things did/didn't suit me or my lifestyle. The hair washing is quite an experience - a good one, but just very different! I enjoyed my appointment so much. All the way through the cut Tristan was talking about what would and wouldn't suit, and changed a few bits I didn't like.

All in all, I felt like I had such a good afternoon. I left feeling like a million dollars! I can't wait for my hair to grow a bit so that I can go back for my next cut!

For prospective clients - please don't pay attention to the 1 bad review on here. I can't praise the team at Stuart Phillips enough. And as for Tristan... he's fabulous!! Thank you so much.

I have been looking for a good colourist for a long time, so I thought I would try Daniel Galvin who's supposed to have the best name in London for colouring. With a £360 bill and a very mediocre colour I was really disappointed. I then decided to go online to look for a top colourist. I spent literally half the day searching. I came across urbanpath and read all the reviews from every salon. The one that stood out the most was Stuart Phillips, so I booked an appointment.

As I was new to the salon I was asked to first come for a skin test - this was to make sure the tint did not react to my skin. To be honest, at first I was a bit put out as I had to make another journey (this was the first time I had been asked by any salon to have this sort of test). But in hindsight I'm really pleased I had the test (it only took 30 seconds) and consider it to be very professional of them - most other salons would only be interested in taking your money and not care about the test.

I was given a long consultation by one of their colourists and, although a little nervous as they were going to change my colour from blonde to red brown and also add some highlights, I agreed to this as I thought it would make a nice change. The whole experience took nearly 3 hours but that included the lovely head massage that you get after your hair is washed and a reasonably long consultation. I am so pleased with my new colour that I can not stop looking in the mirror. The bill came to about £170, which included the blowdry as well. That is half the price of Daniel Galvin and twice as good. I will recommend this salon to all my friends.

Tristan at Stuart Phillips is the 'Gordon Ramsay' of hair. What you get is a no-nonsense consultation, followed by Michelin star skill, creativity and experience. You'll leave the salon feeling totally satisfied, with hair to die for. Add to this the superior level of service, all wrapped in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and you will never go anywhere else for anything hair-related.

I have been a client of Stuart Phillips for many years now, and I have to say Natalie who colours my hair is the best. I visited other salons and other colourists at Stuart Philips while she was on maternity leave and I'm so glad she is back as nobody else has come close. My hair is back to its best. Welcome back Natalie.

Fab - what a difference! Thank you Mitsu, you're not a hairdresser, you're a hair sculptor (and that's coming from a normally down-to-earth woman). Very, very professional, an excellent listener, and I got frequent compliments about my (short) cut for up to a month afterwards. I live in the Middle East and unfortunately cannot come regularly. So, lucky Londoners, go for it while he's there. I envy you!

After reading the fantastic reviews on this website, I did not hesitate to make an appointment with one of the colourists at Stuart Phillips to have the regrowth of my full head of highlights done. For the amount of money this salon charges (£125 plus an extra £20 for blowdry) you would expect an amazing service. I couldn't have been more disappointed - I nearly cried. At the end of my visit, I walked out with at least 2cm of regrowth showing. I complained and was told they could not get the highlights any closer, which is a lie because I have been having highlights done for years and never has it looked that bad. I went back for a redo the following week, only to walk out again with my roots showing. I will never be going back.

I've been a client of Stuart Phillips for over 11 years and I can honestly say that he is a true professional, a perfectionist and a lovely guy too. The salon is very calming, especially after the amazing head massage you get when you have your hair washed. If you are looking to have your hair coloured, Caron Ann and Cristina are both excellent. I even persuaded my husband four years ago to get his hair cut by Stuart. He is very particular with the way he has his hair cut and Stuart has been doing a wonderful job ever since. Thank you Stuart.

Having thought that one guy's hairdresser is pretty much the same as another, I now stand corrected! I visited Stuart's salon in Covent Garden 4 years ago, wanting a fresh style, and now would not dream of letting anyone else cut my hair.

The salon is trendy and is always buzzing. The staff are friendly and attentive and my hour appointment with Stuart not only finds me leaving with a smile on my face from his funny stories but, more importantly, a sharp haircut that makes me feel 'tops' about myself. Trust me when I say this guy is seriously good at what he does.

I am from Beverly Hills, California, land of the seriously beautiful people. I have been to numerous hair and beauty salons on the Rodeo drive which have featured beauty and hair experts such as Paul Mitchell, Maurice Azoulay, Christoph, José Eber and Giuseppe Franco just to name a few. These legendary guys were, and still are, worshipped on all fours by Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Clinton, Claudia Schiffer, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Rhianna, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Beyonce, Countess Giovanna Augusta and just about any other A-list beauty or wealthy patron who is in the know when it comes to celebrity tinseltown coiffure.

Stuart Phillips is in the same league and should be in Beverly Hills where he would be appreciated both artistically and financially. He is a ruthless perfectionist and demands the same from everyone around him. The Stuart Phillips experience is amazing.

God is a hairdresser! Most women will understand how important a good haircut is to your image. I went in with badly damaged hair and came out with beautifully soft, silky, sexy hair (amazingly, still long). Fabulous products, fabulous salon and atmosphere, fabulous haircut! Great attention to detail, great advice and a haircut that lasted. Every girl should indulge in the Stuart Phillips experience. Well worth the money, thank you Stuart.

I've been going to Stuart Phillips for over a year now, having first discovered it on urban path. Tara has successfully taken me blonde, brown and now red(!) and each time I have walked away with exactly what I wanted. Great colour, a flattering cut and extremely professional and friendly service. Even during the visits where I'm not having any major changes done, just a trim, Tara takes the time to get it just right and I really can't recommend her or the salon highly enough. And those Japenese shampoo beds and massages!! Some of my friends go on spa days to relax, I go to Stuart Phillips...
